Making mince pies.

The boys have continued to look at instructions this week and in preparation for writing their own set of instructions they made mince pies for Christmas – no they didn’t last that long!
First two boys took turns to weighing the butter and flour and then everyone had a go at rubbing the fat and flour together, yes they all had sticky greasy hands which caused a lot of groaning! Then the sugar was weighed and added with a pinch of salt and kneaded into pastry. They each made a small pastry ball and pressed it in to a section of the cake tins. Then they added the mincemeat and took it to the oven to be cooked. The afternoon was full of anticipation and then excitement as their mince pies arrived. They could hardly wait to tuck in.
Well done boys they looked delicious.

Building a den for Nutty

This week the boys have started to look at instructions. They began with an exciting challenge to build a den for Nutty to live in during the week whilst he is at school. The den making was a speaking and listening exercise where they took turns to give and follow their own instructions to create living space for Nutty. The only stipulations was it had to be big enough for Nutty to fit into and have a cover to keep him dry. All the boys did extremely well and Nutty has a different den for each night of the school week!
